Former President Maithripala Sirisena made a sensational claim at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, saying Sri Lanka knows exactly who masterminded the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings — but cannot act.
He revealed that the individual is already known to governments, militaries, and intelligence agencies worldwide. “We even know where the mastermind is, but we can’t take them on,” he said.
Secrets the Public Cannot Hear
Sirisena stated that he has given the CID a full account of how the attacks unfolded but stressed that none of it can be disclosed to the public. He suggested that powerful forces are preventing the truth from emerging.
Allegations of Political Sabotage
The former President accused his opponents of deliberately orchestrating serious crimes to tarnish his image, topple his government, and weaken his political party.
Warning on Indo-Lanka Defence Pacts
Commenting on present geopolitics, Sirisena warned that the recently signed defence agreements between India and Sri Lanka could spark complications, likening them to the controversial Indo-Lanka Accord of the 1980s.
He also criticized the long-inactive provincial councils, calling them an expensive burden on the state.
Criticism of Global Leaders
Turning to international affairs, Sirisena said world peace and development are under threat due to the “war mindset” of certain leaders. He singled out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an example and accused powerful nations of prioritizing conflict over fighting global poverty.
