As totals of both teams tallied, the match was continued giving opportunity to the team who would score more runs in the final super over and thus clinch the trophy of victory. On that occasion, the England team who took to the bat at the beginning managed to score 15 runs with nobody falling a prey to bowlers and in that over, 2 fours were scored. It was Stokes and Butler who faced that over.
New Zealand who replied with the bat in the over allotted to them were not able to reach that target. Though 2 runs were needed in the last over, there was a run out and thus the super over too brought the totals to a tally. What was taken into consideration next was the team that scored the biggest number of 4s and sixers. The New Zealand team had plummeted 14 fours and 2 sixers in their 50 overs while England batsmen had 22 fours and 2 sixers to their credit. As such, England who scored the most number of 4s emerged winners. In this context, the hosts England team managed to win the world cup. Ben Stokes became the Man of the Match while Kayne Williamson was the Hero of the tournament. This in fact was the first time that England who introduced the game of cricket to the world happened to win the world cup for the first time!
