Just then these officers were ordered by a higher officer to report immediately to their police station. These officers who stopped their operations then promptly wet before the higher officer. The police say that on a complaint received that the officers had entered a house highly intoxicated with liquor and is harassing them and therefore steps had been taken to check whether they were in an intoxicated state.

Though it was revealed that they were found free of liquor, another highranking officer had inspected them to check whether they were under liquor or not as the earlier results were not convincing. Even then the results were found to be negative and the higher officer still not satisfied with this results either, the six officers were dispatched to Chilaw hospital and thus directed for a medical examination. On that occasion too after examination it was revealed that they were free from liquor. Because of this problem of drunkenness it was not possible to take the gold-robber into custody.
