No change in government -- SLFP will not quit -- UNP-SLFP still together

There were many rumours circulating the whole of last year after the mini-elections, to the effect that various types of government were in the offing. However, both the UNP and SLFP parties have come to a decision to continue further in the journey as before. Though the UNP have called off their plans to install fresh governments; while
SLFP have tried to occupy seats in the Opposition or go hand in hand with the Alliance, all such efforts have come to nought.

The SLFP group has finally avoided their presence in parliament and had instead discussed the matter in the afternoon and what S.B. Dissanayaka said was that his group would not relinquish their stay with the national government and would grant support necessary to President Maithripala Sirisena to carry out necessary amendments and also that they would stick to their positions as Ministers.

In the meantime the General Secretary of the Alliance, Mahinda Amaraweera has released an announcement saying that the news published in newspapers today that he was to quit the incumbent regime and that he had communicated in writing that he was preparing to establish a new government were all bogus news.
