Because Pohottuwa won ... SLFP dissolved in parliament -- one section for the Opposition and one supports UNP

According to local government election results on the victory clinched by Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna, party oranisation of SLFP at grassroot level has collapsedand for this reason SLFP has a bleak future. As a result, refugee MPs of the SLFP have had to join hands with the optional group in order to remain in parliament. This group have destroyed their provincial image by having changed
their political parties and by reasons of leaving the party and as a result there appears to be a risk whether they would be winners if they contest a vote again.

In this perspective what political sources predict is that one group would give their support to the UNP who are anticipating to rebuild the party and would ultimately join with the UNP while another group would take their seat in the Opposition with the United Opposition or 'Pohottuwa'.

Political sources comment that as such, the majority of them would support the UNP. Duminda Dissanayaka, Mahinda Amaraweera, S.B. Dissanaika, Sarath Amunugama, Vijithamuni Soysa, Manusha Nanayakkara, Thilanga Sumathipala, Sriyani Wijewickrama are among the lot who would be switching over to the UNP. Reports say that John Seneviratna, Lakshman Yapa, Susil Preajayantha, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Nimal Siripala would take their seats with the Opposition.
