Mr. Chandana Jayaratna, Director of Space Department at the Colombo University has said that the strong noise and bright light experienced in a number of places in the island yesterday could have been a fireball type of meteorite which caused such a phenomenon. It is of special significance to note
that this was experienced in places such as Anuradhapura, Embilipitiya and Kalutara apart from Galle and Matara. Public opinion expressed last night can be seen from the video below
