J'pura bus topples after colliding with drunk lady-driver's car

A traffic accident occured day-before-night when the bus transporting a group of students of the Management Faculty of University of Sri Jayawardenepura who participated in a picnic and was returning happened to collide with a car which came from an opposite direction at Nawinna Junction.

In this particular instance a female who was under
liquor and was driving her vehicle at a rapid pace had negligently driven the vehicle at that same speed towards the main road at the junction at which point had struck the bus. On that occasion the bus-driver had applied the brakes and at which moment the bus staggering had got pushed to a side and tilted to one side and had toplled. Those who were nearby had removed the glass on the top part of the bus thus rescuing the students.


As a result of this accident, those who were inside had sustained injuries and over 50 students were hospitalised. It is learned that there were about 65 students in the bus. 16 of them were kept back at Kalubowila Hospital for further treatment and as the condition of one student was serious, that student was transferred to the National Hospital. For further inquiry, drivers of both vehicles were taken into police custody. Shown below is a CCTV report of the incident
