We are against private medical colleges -- United Opposition
A question was posed by the media as to the opinion of the United Opposition in relation to the issue in connection with the SAITM Private Medical College which was sanctioned by courts yesterday and on that occasion the former Minister Dinesh Goonewardene responded saying that Sri Lanka does
not require private medical colleges. The media in turn questioned whether it was not during the past regime that this medical college was started and he replied saying that though it was started by the last government, the Sri Lanka Medical Council had issued a decision that they were not prepared to accept that move within that same period.

Whatever it is, Minister Dinesh voiced his ideas all the while forgetting that the Minister of Higher Education at that time S.B. Dissanayaka tried with great effort to install this medical college and that by controlling student protests had gone to the extent of blessing that institution for four groups continuously, to go on with the education.
