Other than SLTB and private buses of Gemunu's association,18000 private buses and Railway on strike from midnight
In respect of the penalty imposed by the budget 2017 for traffic offences amounting to Rs 25000 the private bus owners associations other than those under the association of Gemunu Wijeratne are to commence a strike action from midnight today the 01st instant requesting not a part but penalties against all offences are lifted by the government.
It is reported accordingly those buses under the inter provincial private bus owners association, Lanka
private bus association and some other private bus associations are to join in this strike.The president of the Lanka private bus owners association Gemunu Wijeratne has not consented to this decision.
It is reported that in order to reduce the inconvenience caused to bus commuters all leave of the SLTB employees have been cancelled. This is a step of the government to offer a better service than the usual service.
It is also reported that the railway employees other than those of the Railway drivers society are to launch a strike seeking a response for their demands already put forward.
It is confirmed that the buses plying on the southern express highway amounting to 8000 buses, school vans,three wheedlers' trucks,motor cycles totaling to 26 societies are to join in this strike.
