One of the pioneer senior announcer of the then Radio Ceylon  and journalist Ariyadasa Pieris is presently ailling.The President Maithripala Sirisena had paid him a courtesy visit to see his health condition at his residence in Nugegoda on last Friday afternoon..

Ariyadasa Pieris is apart from been a senior  presenter and journalist had been a director and a film

producer..He is the father of Visharada Charitha Priyadarshini Peiris.

The programme "Adunika Peya" is a programme presented by Aiyadasa Pieris which gave the opportunity  for amateurs to come to fame.It is said that through this programme that Edward Jayakody had joined the family after the friendship having gone beyond.

Ariyadasa Pieris had presented very popular programmes like "Tharu Thanuma","Pena Podi ", "Owe ne Be" ."Puluwannam dinaganna" ,"Ambiga geethayen Geethaya". He had acted in the film Kurulu Bedda and had directed the film  "Sobana Sitha" produced by MH Mohamed.
