During the period of the general election
campaign stringent laws were to be followed in order to prevent violation of election laws. The Inspector General of Police N.K Illangakoon has said that in this regard 254 vehicles have been taken in to police custody and action would be instituted legally.
This was because the elections commissioner wanted to adhere to the election laws strictly. The Inspector General had said that among those vehicles there are vehicles owned by the government..
The Inspector General had said the owners, guardians and the heads of government institutions would have to take the blame and face prosecution for the offences committed.
