POLICE BIG SHOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PUBLIC UPROAROVER...  JAFFNA SCHOOLGIRL INCIDENT .... QUESTIONED

The cause which incited a situation of tension among the public in Jaffna along with the murder of a schoolgirl in Jaffna that created a commotion sometime back all over

the country was that a person connected to that incident made his escape with the support of a high officer of the police. Later, though the person concerned was apprehended before making his escape from the country, even protests of harthal broke out in the North because of this act of partiality. It was reported that this escape was carried out as a result of an interference of a certain lady politician in the North.

After the incident aforementioned, though a number of police officers in the North and in adjoining regions were transferred, Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Lalith Jayasinghe was not given a transfer and was not subjected to proper interrogation, which was later criticized over the media too. The police team conducting investigations over this matter had interrogated the said Deputy Inspector General of Police from 9.00 in the morning until 3.30 in the afternoon for over 6 hours last Saturday (4), it was reported. The investigating officers have confirmed that he was questioned in connection with giving orders to the police to set free a suspect who incidentally had been handed over to the police after being nabbed by the villagers.

Police Headquarters reveal that this final report over this issue would be handed to the Inspector General of Police in a day or two and that he would take necessary action against officers responsible in this connection.
