Chandrika too for General Election ....
Sudden decision
Political sources reveal that within the climate that former
President Mahinda Rajapaksa having received nominations for the General Election from the United People's Freedom Alliance , the other former President Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga too has decided to contest at the forthcoming General Election. It is also understood that she would be contesting from Gampaha District.
Though she had rejected stepping into politics once again as mentioned at a media briefing held yesterday, this is a sudden decision, it is reported. Though Mahinda has been permitted nominations from the Alliance, whether he accepts it will be made known tomorrow on an official basis.
As such, if Mahinda would be contesting from the Alliance, a candidate for the position of Prime Minister would not be named within the conditions and framework that he and Chandrika both would be contesting. In these circumstances that Chandrika would be coming back, the issue whether Mahinda would contest separately has cropped up. The final result of how Mahinda would be contesting with other Parties this evening is expected to be finalised. Even Mrs. Kumaratunga's Secretary Mr. P. Dissanayaka has confirmed that she would be coming forward for the General Election.
