Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. In the allotted 50 overs they made 363/9 . Lahiru Thirimanne was dismissed cheaply for 04 runs. But Tilakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara added 195 runs for the second wicket which was the 3rd highest in world cup history for Sri Lanka. Dilshan scored 104, while Kumar Sangakkara scored more briskly scoring 124 with 4 sixes.
This century of Sangakkara was incidentally a record for all world cup matches, his 4th consecutive century struck in as many innings in the present world cup. This was a world record for all ODI’s. Earlier he scored a century each against England, Bangladesh and Australia in the last three preliminary Pool ‘A’ matches in this world cup. Skipper Angelow Mathews stroked a quick fire 50 in just 21 balls with 6 sixes, which incidentally was the second fastest 50 in world cup matches. In reply Scotland was all out for 215 runs in 43.1 overs.
