Shirani Bandaranayake assumes duties as Chief Justice once again in office (video)

Mrs. Shirani Bandaranayaka who is present at the oath-taking ceremony as 43rd Chief Justice of Sri Lanka arrived at the Supreme Courts Complex this afternoon a short while ago at
Aluthkade and walked to her official chambers. Later she went to her Judicial Secretariat office.

When her appointment was in motion, as Mohan Peiris carried on duties as the Chief justice on the influence of the former President, it was said that a fresh swearing-in was not necessary for her to accept her duties once again.

President of the Bar Association, Attorney-at-Law Mr. Upul Jayasuriya welcomed her by shaking hands with her and she was handed over a bouquet of flowers by those present. Shirani Bandaranayake returned to the Judiciary once again as the 43rd Chief Justice, after a lapse of 2 years. Several senior Attorneys-at-Law such as M.A. Sumanthiran and J.C.Weliamuna were present to welcome her.

Whether Mohan Peiris would resign on his own or not after this incident it is understood that he would return no more to his position as Chief Justice. Legal field sources said that although she assumed her former position, Shirani Bandaranayake would be relinquishing her duties tomorrow and that Shri Pawan would take his oaths as Chief Justice.
