Australian batsman dies ... with ball striking head!
25 year old cricketer, Phil Hughes who underwent a serious situation when a bouncer struck his head during a cricket match, succumbed to his injury today. Phil who lost his consciousness and went into a coma from this accident which happened last Tuesday, did not regain consciousness until he passed away, Peter Bruckner, doctor who is in
charge of the cricket team announced.
When the ball struck Phil who was an opening batsman of the Australian team fell down on the middle of the pitch and later had to face an operation on the head and was at the ICU in a coma.
Though he underwent a number of scan tests yesterday in Sidney, it was continuously reported that his condition was not in a sound state. 25 year old Hughes who was preparing to represent the Australian team once again in the Test Tournament against India in a few more days' time faced this mishap when a ball from Shane Abbot of New South Wales struck his head during a Sheffield Shield Tournament. At that time Hughes had scored 63 runs for the South Australian team and had to be taken away to hospital with the aid of a helicopter brought to the grounds.
He suffered a serious condition with an internal haemorrage of the head because of the ball striking his head. As a result of this accident the match between New South Wales team and Western Australia too was abandoned that day. Deceased Hughes had amassed a total of 1535 runs in 26 Test games and claims 3 centuries and 7 half centuries to his credit.
