Attempted abduction in Polpithigama -- Updates

PC member's son had abducted mother with one child .....
with intention of marriage?

New information has been received about the incident where the police were able to rescue a married lady and her three and half year old child were being forcibly taken away by 3 persons who came in a vehicle in Polpithigama area in Kurunegala.
Chinthaka Nuwan Amaratunga (32) the son of a UPFA member of the North-West Provincial Council who was instrumental in this act of abduction had admitted that the woman had been abducted with the purpose of getting married to her.

He had revealed to police that he has had a love affair with this Nadeeka Nilmini for a number of years. The son of  this PC member too is a married person. While it is reported that there were problems in the family life of this lady, the PC member's son who was in and out of their house as a friend of theirs had tried to make an alliance with her; but he had no positive response from her according to the statement the police received on an inquiry made from her.

Nadeeka Nilmini (30) of Polpithigama Galewewa and her three and half year old son Damsara Denuwan were taken by force by the PC member's son and others day-before-yesterday (21) at about 11.45 in the morning in a motor vehicle in Galtemwewa area and on the occasion when the police and the people of the area pursued them, the suspects had left the woman and the child in a by-lane in Kurunegala area in Wellawa and fled after that.

Later on, the Weerakumbura Police had arrested the son of the former PC member. These suspects were produced at Mahawa Magistrates Courts yesterday (22).

The woman who was subjected to the abduction had this to say to Polpithigama Police: "Though I got married with a dowry of some lakhs, my husband carries on an illicit affair with another woman. His mother, father and the villagers know about it. He does not give any expenses to the mother and the child even. But the husband's parents treat me and the child like their own life. So, because of that I live in that house. I had problems with the PC member's son. I had no such connection. I have even complained to the police about the problems I had with him".

The police say that the PC member's son was called to the police and was released after being warned, not to worry her because she as well as he are married parties and therefore had no legal permission to be married once again.  It is also suspicious whether false number plates were fixed on to the vehicle and whether she was abducted this way and taken away with the motive of marrying her.

As this woman mentioned that when she was abducted, these criminals had from time to time exchanged messages over the phone with her husband Thusitha Kumara; the police further said that steps would be taken for him to be summoned to police and a statement be recorded.

The police are conducting inquiries on this matter.
