Luxury brothel in Colpetty hotel .... raided with 8 Thai girls inside
The Panadura Vice-squad Unit raided a brothel being conducted under the name 'Spa' on the 3rd floor of Juliana Hotel situated in Colpetty, Colombo day-before-yesterday.
9 including 8 Thai nationals who have been remaining here in Sri Lanka on tourist visa engaging in prostitution have been taken into custody by the police.
It was reported that popular cricketers, actors and politicians had been patronizing this spot as a result of someone's high connections and though this was illegal,it had continued without any problem from anybody. The police said that though this place had operated as a massage clinic, it had been a place which had been conducted without the supervision of a medical practitioner or without a license.
A fee of Rs. 8,500 was charged to enter this luxury brothel while to enjoy the comforts within, a fee of Rs. 5,000 had been levied, it was understood. There had been a mini-bar available while customers were afforded the opportunity of eating and drinking and enjoy to their hearts' content. There had been permanent members who had been frequenting this spot, it was reported. On this occasion when the police conducted the raid, the police said that there were about 20 persons who had mad bookings to come there while the police had taken into custody a list of names of persons who had been constantly frequenting this haunt and among them were popular cricketers, actors and politicians, it was learned. It was revealed that the daily earnings of this luxury brothel which was in operation from 12 noon to 12 midnight totalled to a sum of around 5 lakhs while the monthly income was about 1 million 50 lakhs.
At the moment the raid was conducted, there had been 2 Saudi Arabian nationals, a Sri Lankan businessman and 2 Sri Lankan students overseas who had come early morning that very day to Sri Lanka to enjoy the Thai girls and they were cordoned by the police.
A police higher up said that a Saudi Arabian national who was there had visited this spot on 22 occasions. The police have received information that a Korean national too had connections with this illegal brothel.
9 individuals including 8 Thai girls were produced before Fort Magistrate Courts yesterday and the lawyers who appeared on their behalf had said that this massage parlour was being conducted under the approval of the Investment Promotion Board and that there are Five Star hotels too which are being managed on these lines and requested them to be released on bail.
However, the Magistrate and Additional Magistrate Mr. Thilina Gamage who refused bail remanded the suspects until next 25th.
