NOMINATIONS FOR ANANDA SARATH WHO MADE TEACHER KNEEL

If nominations are given to PC member who made me kneel ...I'll be on the Opposition Party stage

     If former member of the PC of North-West Province Mr.Ananda Sarath Kumara is to be given nominations to contest at the forthcoming elections by the ruling party, it is reported that the teacher who was made to kneel down by the PC member is prepared to get on the Opposition Party stage.

    It has been brought to focus and emphasised that affording the opportunity of giving him nominations is an insult to the entire generation of teachers and that steps should be taken to oppose this.

  Sources close to the former teacher of Nawagaththegama Maha Vidyalaya say that several requests have been made asking her to get on the Opposition Party stage at the elections. It is reported that the said teacher has not taken a steady decision on this matter so far. She had told the media that at least in the future she expects that justice would bed done to her. Upto now she is on leave and had got a transfer from Nawagaththegama M.V. to Maha Uswewa Maha Vidyalaya, but she has to pass her former school to go to the new school; therefore it is said that therefore she had not reported to work for the above reason. Though the PC member Ananda Sarath had forwarded his letter of resignation to appease the public uproar at the time when he made the teacher kneel down, that particular provincial council itself had been dissolved within a few days and the courts was unable to carry out further proceedings in connection with the case because of lack of evidence to the effect that anybody had made her kneel down.

     In this respect, teachers of the said school launched a protest against the Vice Principal who shrouded his evidence and they declined to be present in school. Upto now the PC member has not been found accused by the courts. What the government mentioned last week was that nominations will not be allowed to anybody who has been convicted by the law. Therefore it was discussed among political circles that arrangements are being made to grant nominations to the PC member Ananda Sarath and that it is also a political stunt to provide him with media publicity to his advantage.

    The teacher concerned is preparing to step on the Opposition stage now in the midst of all this.
