Much of rumours circulating .. false -- Swiss consulate

The incident of a lady officer issuing visas at Switzerland consulate being abducted by an unknown group of people last week and released after questioning her has resulted in the emergence of contradictory information on a political level. The Sri Lanka foreign affairs ministry has issued a press release saying that data secured by Swiss consulate regarding the incident and behavioural movements of the lady officer on the day of
reference do not tally at all. They further inform that according to interviews with those testifying in this connection and evidence relating to technical evidence such as uber, cctv and telephone and gps, no abduction appears to have taken place.

It is stated in the media announcement that a discussion should take place with this officer who experienced the situation concerned and as it has been reported that she has sustained injuries, she must be directed to a judicial medical officer. Prior to this prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Wimal Weeravansha have mentioned before the media that there is no police complaint regarding such an abduction and that investigations have been launched on a diplomatic level. Minister Wimal further had mentioned that this is akin to Rajitha's 'Sudu van kimbul sakahchawa'.

Whatever it is, the Swiss consulate office made a press release rejecting the story that a complaint was not lodged with the police. The press release further says that no sooner the incident was reported, a complaint was lodged with the police and that a posse of crime investigation officers had come to note down evidence. The press announcement requests not to place faith on rumours circulating around. It also states that the government has not made any request to expel Mr. Nishantha Silva from Switzerland. It is also stated there that as the victimised lady officer's health condition has turned for the worse after the incident, giving evidence has been delayed.

After the criminal investigation officer Nishantha Silva has left the country with his family to Switzerland without anybody's notice, this lady officer has been abducted when she was on her way back home after her official duties on suspicion that she has given him the visa concerned. She was then released after about 3 hours after being interrogated with telephone data being forcibly taken from her. Those responsible for her abduction have said that they are crime investigation officers. However, 2 days after the incident a media announcement released by police said that this group are not attached to police and that they had played a false role as policemen.

After this incident no meetings of police media have taken place and activities of the police media unit too has come to a standstill. It is not the police who say that there was no abduction according to cctv data, but the ministry of foreign affairs.
