Karu Jayasuriya rejects accepting UNP leadership

Close news sources to Speaker Mr. Karu Jayasuriya has rejected invitation for him to accept leadership of United National Party. Several seniors and ministers of the United National Party have requested him to take over leadership of the party on a number of occasions. Mr. Karu Jayasuriya has however responded saying that he is not ready to consent to that request because
presently a crisis has cropped up within the party. He has further elaborated saying that under the circumstances the problematic situation that has developed between UNP leader Ranil Wickremasingha and Sajith Premadasa, he is not able to function by taking leadership. He also added that within an environment where two characters are throwing allegations at each other and when a general election is at hand, it is not possible to a level of victory. 

What Sajith's supporters say is that other than Sajith, there is no one else to 'repair' the UNP. Whatever it is, the young crowd in favour of Ranil Wickremasingha dismisses all that saying that with the defeat of Sajith, those opinions too were thrown aside. Karu Jayasuriya has informed that even if her assumes leadership, there is a crowd anticipating to sabotage such activities and that he is not prepared to be subjected to such a risk. Mr. Karu Jayasuriya further mentioned that according to the manner in which MPs congenial to Mr. Ranil Wickremasingha nd Mr. Sajith Premadasa are acting at present ... great damage has been created on United National Party. It is also informed that media conducive to Rajapaksa are engaged in publishing news in order to create a rift between the two factions of the party. 

Whatever it is, some MPs of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna have proposed Mr. Vasudeva Nanayakkara's name, it is reported that towards middle of December, Karu will be losing his position as Speaker at parliamentary sessions of the new government.
