35 candidates have handed over their nomination papers to election commission for the 2019 presidential election. 

Though 41 candidates have deposited cash for the presidential election, 6 have backed out from the contest. Chamal Rajapaksa, Kumara Welgama, Mahipala Herath, Jayantha Liyanage, Basheer Segu
Dawood and Gunapala Tissakuttiaarachchi did not hand over the nomination papers and have kept away from the contest. The 35 contestants for the presidential election thus are as follows
