Presidential elections on November 16 ... already gazetted

The gazette released this night (16) announces that the presidential election to be held to elect the next president will be held on November 16th. It also states that nominations would be accepted for the presidential elections would be carried out on the month of October 7th.

By now, the Podu Jana Peramuna has nominated Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Anura Kumara Disanayaka from the JVP; but the UNP has still not decided upon their presidential candidate.
Though it is informed that an SLFP candidate would be named ... so far he has not been named. Minority parties and about 16 organisations apart from them have nominated the candidate from their party.

In this context, the candidate who would acquire over 50 per cent votes at presidential elections this time would be taking his oaths on November 17th while the present system of members of parliament would be in effect till March 2020. When considering the date on which a new president would assume powers, the tenure of the present president would decrease by 2 months than the allotted time period.
