Mother rescues son who falls into a 32 feet well and breaks her leg

A boy aged just 2 years falls into an unprotected well about 32 feet deep and was battling between life and death when his mother was successful in saving his life. This brave woman is P.H. Iresha Damayanthi (36) from Siyambalawewa in Polpithigama. The child whose life was saved is Janindu Haseen (2).

Because of her brave attempt in jumping inside the well to save the boy's life, Mrs. Damayanthi who
has become an invalid as a result of damage to bones of her left leg began to speak about her heroic act in this manner:
"I have two sons. The elder is eight years. The younger son is 2 years old. Because of the drought we have no water in our well. So because of that I used to go to a relative's well with my two sons and bathe there. On the day of this incident I went with my two sons around five in the evening and made them have a bath from the tap near the well. After that I myself had a bath. At that time both children had picked up a ball nearby and were playing with it. The said well is closeby there and it happened to be an unprotected well. When I was applying soap while bathing I suddenly heard a noise. Just then elder son shouted out and said that his brother who ran to get the ball fell into the well. I immediately peeped into the well and I saw him floating on top of the water and then going up and down. Without thinking of anything I swiftly jumped inside the well and kept him above the water. In the meantime elder son ran to a nearby house and told about the incident to the father there.

They then came rushing. I then told them, 'don't panic ... take my son'. Later the villagers  brought and lowered a ladder about twenty feet and tied another ladder to it. Subsequently, a villager got down into the well and carried my son and came out. But I was not able to lift my leg and climb. I realised that my leg was broken. Then later the crowd made something like a cot from an empty sack and having kept me on it tied the four ends and lifted me up with a rope. My son did not even have a bruise. In any case my left leg was broken".
