This request has been made during the background where he has been sentenced to 6 years rigorous imprisonment by Colombo high court judge, Mr. Gihan Kulatunga. The attorney general has filed action against accused on two counts for possessing 5 kilos and 30 grammes of cannabis and dealing in same without a valid license in Maligawattha, Colombo on 18th September, 2013 or a date somewhere near. The attorney general has filed legal action against accused on two counts and the judge has punished him for 6 years rigorous imprisonment at the rate of 3 years for each charge while instructing prison superintendent that the jail term be carried out separately. Kanjipani Imran who submits an appeal to appeal court has pointed out thereby that he has admitted guilt for the charges without seeking legal assistance and has admitted being guilty on the very first instance he got the opportunity and that the punishment meted out to him by high court is too harsh. The defendant therefore has appealed to high court to squash the punishment given by high court and to grant him a suspended jail sentence or a reduced punishment.
