Male and female domestic servants caught in sixty lakhs robbery at Hakeem's home

A male and female domestic servant who were employed at MP Mr. Rauf Hakeem's house were ordered to be remanded till August 19th by Colombo chief magistrate, Miss Lanka Jayaratna yesterday (5) in connection with the incident of the missing sum of Rs. sixty lakhs from Mr. Hakeem's room. 

The two individuals who were so remanded were Velaudam Balachadran alias Abdul Rahuman of
Digana, Ambekotte and Sathyavelu Shanthi Kumari of Kudalu Oya, Herowaththa. Police informed court that a complaint was lodged at Kurunduwaththa police in this respect last July 28th by MP Mr. Rauf Hakeem, Mrs. Isinol Shanath Hakeem living in Colombo 7, Malalasekera Mawatha.

Mr. Rauf Hakeem has sold a car on June 10th and had handed over a sum of about Rs. sixty lakhs until it is to be banked and the money was left under the bed in the bedroom and when it was revealed that the said money was missing, the domestic servants were questioned about it and they had said that they are not aware of it; it was stated in the complaint, Kurunduwaththa police told court. 

Later after observations were carried out in this connection, Kurunduwaththa police told court that this male and female suspect were both taken into custody and that further investigations are underway. The magistrate ordered that they be sent to remand prison based on records provided to court; leaving their place of work and pieces of cash notes being recovered from the toilet system drain.
