Mahinda nominates Pohottu Presidential candidate as Gotabhaya

The national general assembly of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna is scheduled to be held this afternoon (11) at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. On that occasion opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa is to be named as leader of that party. On the speech to be delivered on that occasion former secretary of defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's name is to be nominated as Presidential candidate for Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna for forthcoming
Presidential election, it has been revealed across political sources. It is also reported that political talk in the country so far would take a different direction.

While news circulate that Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna is to contest as an alliance to be held at the next Presidential election supposed to be held at the end of year 2019, on that occasion the Presidential candidate would be Gotabhaya. While a strong dialogue brewed around as to whether Gotabhaya Rajapaksa would give up his American citizenship or not; two decisive and most important law suites are being heard and it is in such a background that he has been nominated in this manner.

At the last 'small elections' Podu Jana Peramuna who managed to display victorious results of 43 per cent should win with a 50 per cent in the Presidential election and in that context it is necessary and important that instead of joining hands with them SLFP votes should be accumulated to their lot.

Though continuous discussions were held in the recent past on the necessity to draw those votes to Gotabhaya's lot, by climbing beyond the desire entertained by Maithripala Sirisena who holds leadership of the SLFP to contest separately, such discussions have still not come to a halt as such. In any case, after Gotabhaya's name is nominated by Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna today, what SLFP could do is only to give her consent to it or not.
