Demonstration over person dying inside Mattakkuliya police when in custody
A suspect has died when under police custody by Mattakkuliya police and because of a demonstration staged opposite kith and kin of that person, there was state of commotion. What police say is that when this person had been arrested regarding a robbery and was in custody, he has thus passed away because he was injured after having jumped down from the 3rd floor of the house concerned. However, what his relatives say is that he had been brutally assaulted by police.
The suspect's attempt had been to break into a storied-house at Mattakkuliya Kadirana area. Having
heard a woman yelling he had jumped down from the 3rd floor there. Neighbours had then cordoned him and later handed him to Mattakkuliya police. The suspect in fact has died around 8 last morning (10) when under police custody at Mattakkuliya police. An investigation has been launched under supervision of superintendent of police in charge of Colombo North division.
