Retired high court judge Kadawathaarachchi commits suicide by jumping from 5th floor of national hospital!

An incident of a retired high court judge under treatment at a paying ward in Colombo national hospital jumping from the 5th floor was reported last Friday. The suicide victim is a retired high court judge of Colombo high court by the name of Sirisena Kadawathaarachchi residing in Elvitigala flats in Narahenpita. The incident referred to has occured around 9.50 in the night of 5th Friday. 

The said retired high court judge was under treatment for diabetes and some other ailments at a private hospital in Colombo; later his doctor-son has admitted him to the Colombo national hospital
for further treatment. This 88 year old patient who was disgusted over his health condition has surreptitiously carried out his action of suicide by awaiting an opportunity when nurses were moving here and there and leaping through a window in the night. 

As the patient under treatment was missing from his bed, on searching it was found that he was found collapsed on the yard adjoining the ward building and that he had already passed away. Colombo urban additional inquirer into sudden deaths, Mrs. Iresha Deshani Samaraweera arrived at the scene of death of retired high court judge and conducted the preliminary inquiry into the sudden death and the doctor-son of the retired high court judge gave evidence in that connection. As the chief nursing officer of the ward in which the deceased judge was taking treatment was not vigilant in this related circumstances, the inquirer into sudden deaths summoned police to produce her to court on the 13th. Maradana police are conducting inquiries into the incident concerned.
