How Amal and Ryan were traced on suspicion of taking a 700 million diamond to Madush by air!

Singer Amal Perera was subjected to discussion some years back  was someone who took a hand in the white turtle robbery which took place. He had in fact come to the place where this rare species of white turtle was being sold and inquiries were made in that respect and the said animal had disappeared in just a few days after that. The owner of the animal has told that Amal Perera was among those suspected of having robbed this white turtle. It was also added that Amal Perera in that instance has told that the white turtle could be for millions to
the Maldives. However, as there was no evidence, the case was thrown aside.

A few months ago, Amal Perera's name gets linked to Makandure Madush and Ryan van Rowan as those who had gone to Pannipitiya disguised as police and looted the diamond worth Rs. seven hundred million after which they had proceeded to Madush in Dubai with the diamond on a flight to e handed over to him.

It was on November 5th that a clique of people had gone to a house in Erawwala, Pannipitiya in police uniform and had looted an invaluable diamond to the value of Rs. seven hundred million. The plaintiff was someone who was attached to a catering outlet in Saudi Arabia. The manner in which he comes across this diamond worth so much value is in a dump of earth. This diamond which was sent to this country hidden among items brought here without notifying customs. It was understood that he had taken measures to conceal information of his find from his friends in Saudi. This person who transported the diamond on the sly to his house then has come to Sri Lanka with the dream of starting life's path as a gem businessman. He began buying gems and selling them while imagining that he would become a wealthy man one day because of this diamond.

Thus he has started purchasing gems from various people, putting his hand into the gem business and when he was reaching the peak of his trade, then made preparations to dispose of the diamond by selling it. For that purpose he managed to get down some foreigners through some tourist guides. He had also armed himself with an assessment report in this connection from National Gem and Jewellery Authority. It was learned that apart from tourists, even Sri Lankans had called over at his home to buy the diamond.

In the meantime, information about this great diamond has fallen on the ears of Maduush in Dubai through his accomplices. It was an underworld gangster named 'Matara malli' who is used by Madush to loot this act of looting the diamond. Thusitha Maduranga (38) alias Matara malli living in Rotumba area in Matara is someone who has over ten cases in court in connection with looting and homicides and having been released from his jail sentence has worked as a driver at Weeraketiya temple.

The looting had been planned on the promise that Matara malli would be given Rs. fifty lakhs and that as an advance initially a sum of Rs. two lakhs and a mobile phone would be given to him. On the other hand, on instructions of Makandure Madush, Matara malli has employed Ravindra Nalaka, a hero in looting and an Austrian national and two or three accomplices, for this robbery.

On November 5th the Austrian national has gone to the Pannipitiya house after having made an appointment over the phone. After half an hour after the two of them have entered the house, Matara malli barges into the house dressed in uniform as a team of policemen from Piliyandala as a posse of policemen who came for a raid. Matara malli and his colleagues who gave the impression to the householders that they on that occasion had come to arrest the foreign national who is a robber had subsequently displayed a 3.8 revolver and a pair of manacles. The house owner-businessman immediately was put into a room and they had vanished after plundering the Rs. seven hundred million diamond and some other gems there. All three has disappeared with the foreigner and when the houseowner had come out ... everything was over. In fact, all six together with the foreigner were not to be seen. The diamond and other gems too had disappeared.

After investigations were conducted when Maharagama Police were informed about this robbery, it was Nalaka who who was cornered first of all while hiding in a house in Kotuwanne. When Nalaka was interrogated, it was revealed that this robbery was carried out by Makandure Madush and it came to be known about Matara malli too.

Matara malli was arrested at Maliban Junction even before a month elapsed after the robbery ... last December 1st. When Matara malli was questioned, it was confirmed that the foreigner who took part in this activity and another individual had left the country on November 7th. The diamond in any case was not to be found. Investigations carried out later it came to be known that the robbed diamond so looted was brought to Madush in Dubai by air. The police were baffled as to how the diamond was taken to Dubai. According to information received, a suspicion cropped up about a tele-drama actor.

According to a tip off given to Dehiwala Police by a narcotics underworld element, it was reported that the friendship of tele-actor Ryan van Royan and singer Amal Perera has gone to the extent of Makandure Madush getting their support too while Ryan has during those days had made a trip to Dubai.

The diamond which was kept in safe custody under instructions of Madush was brought to Colombo and handed over to one individual on November 8th. According to inquiries, tele-actor Ryan has flown to Dubai on November 8th last year. As such, what police investigating team suspected was that Madush has got down the said diamond to Dubai through Ryan or a person who accompanied him. Investigating officers have got the tip off that as well-known artistes such as Ryan, Amal were not subjected to checking up at the airport, Madush has got his work done by them.

Under these circumstances it was decided that Ryan van Rowan and Amal Perera were required to be questioned with regard to the robbery of the diamond, police messages were sent to them and before being cornered recently in Dubai, it was only Ryan van Rowan who has given a statement to police as such. It was reported that three weeks prior to this, Ryan van Rowan has turned up at Mirihana Special Operations Unit and given a statement whether he had taken the diamond to Dubai or not. According to relevant investigations though singer Amal Perera was summoned, he has informed that he would be travelling overseas and that he would come to police once he returns from there.

Whatever it is, Ryan has given a statement that though he toured Dubai he has not seen a person called Makandure Madush and that he does not know Madush. In any case, according to checking made on Ryan's telephone connection network, it was revealed that he maintained frequent alliance with Makandure Madush and both Ryan and Amal making a trip to Dubai this time has given rise to some suspicion because of this diamond phenomenon.

The seven hundred million diamond sent to Makandure Madush is either in possession of Madush's second wife Thilini Nishaya in Dubai or has already been sold. Officer in charge of Mirihana Special Operations Unit, Inspector of Police Jayantha Perera is in the process of fathoming how singer Amal Perera and tele-actor Ryan van Rowan who was nabbed together with Makandure Madush who are under custody of Dubai Police happened to be connected to this robbery and if both of them come to Sri Lanka in future, they will definitely be subjected to interrogation in that respect, it was reported.
