Premadasa Udugampola passes away

Former deputy inspector general of police Mr. Premadasa Udugampola passed away at the age of 84. 

His name was a household word as someone who made a powerful contribution in the aspect of controlling JVP activists during the 2nd upsurge of 1987 - 1990. 15 attorneys at law who voiced their opinion on behalf of human rights in the '89 terror period were assassinated while some attorneys
made serious allegations against former deputy inspector general of police Premadasa Udugampola and former superintendent of police, Douglas Peiris against such murders. It was reported that 8 of those attorneys were murdered by state security officers and other army factions directed by the former.

JVP activists set fire to his home in Galle as a revenge against his actions at that time and his mother has passed away in that fire. Mr. Udugampola's body presently lies at Gampaha, Pahalagama, Udugampolawatta while his final rites will be performed on the th this month at Gampaha.
