Piliyandala lady's throat cut and killed ...
when getting ready to go to work!

The incident where a lady in a house in Piliyandala was killed with her throat slit last morning still remains a mystery.

This mother of two children had been preparing to go to work from her house in Piliyandala when this murder has taken place and at a time when nobody was in the house. Her throat had been cut with a sharp instrument and her body was recovered in the bathroom last morning (7), police say. The victim is a 54 year old with two children named Niranjini Weerasingha living down Gurugammana
Road, Kesbewa. She had been attached to the waste water private project at the Wellawatta Branch affiliated to the Water Supply and Drainage Board as a manageress.

The victim had been living in her house alone for a period of time and had divorced from her husband some years back. Of her two children the son is employed in Dubai while her married daughter happens to live elsewhere in Kesbewa itself, it was understood.

This manageress who was murdered had spoken to her daughter around 6.30 last morning (7) and though the daughter had called her over the phone at about 8 that morning, there has been no response. Therefore the daughter has contacted the mother's office and inquired and was told that she has not reported to work that day. The daughter who was perplexed had come to the mother's house. On her arrival the door was found locked and she had with the duplicate key in her possession proceeded to open the door to find the mother dead in a pool of water in the bathroom, face up. She had then notified police. The police were able to ascertain the time of murder as something between 6.30 and 8 in the morning. At the time she was murdered, she was found dressed in her office uniform and as she was complete with her shoes on meant that she was just about to leave home, according to evidence available.

The assailant has not tampered with any household items or the almirah and it was possible to find her mobile phone hid inside a cushion cover of a chair in the house. It was revealed that the killer had the key of the front door of the house after this murder. The police say that this then was not the work of a person who had come to rob he house but that many factors were found to say that this to a large extent can be suspected as a case of revenge.
