English lady teacher sends SMS answers from exam hall elsewhere to student in O/L exam hall

A student who has been writing answers in an unlawful manner at the ordinary level examination and a school lady teacher who has aided and abetted in this connection have been nabbed by police.

A private applicant living in Kotuwalpola area sitting for the ordinary level examination from Balangoda Jailani Maha Vidyalaya yesterday (6) had been securing his answers from SMS across his phone was nabbed in the examination hall. He had placed the phone inside one of his socks and had
kept it covered with a paper by keeping it on the desk and from a moment after the exam has begun had been unfolding the paper and noting down the answers he had been receiving via SMS.

It was the first English Language paper which was held yesterday. Though most people were not aware of messages coming through the said phone, an examiner who was on duty in the examination hall had been able to notice this cheating process. Under such circumstances the supervisor of the exam hall was able to apprehend the student concerned with the phone as being involved in this cheating act. On later investigations it was revealed that the person sending the messages was a lady teacher engaged in examination duties serving at another examination hall.

The suspect lady teacher had after receiving the question paper to the examination hall had distributed the papers and had subsequently kept one question paper from the balance remaining in her possession and had resorted to sending the answers in this manner, it was revealed. As such, it was proved that both of them had committed a serious offence under the examinations act.

Information has been received that the suspect teacher is a 31 year old teacher of English living in Rassagala area and was someone who was conducting tuition classes for this student. Police say that both of them have been taken into custody and produced before Balangoda Magistrate Court. Further investigations are underway by Balangoda police in this connection.
