"Our hearts broke when you said 'Samanala clan" -- Samarisi group

A group of Samarisi activists expressed " Because of President Maithripala Sirisena saying "Samanala clan" at the 'Janamahimaya' rally, damage was done to 'Samarisi' community and that the President should ask pardon from their community. This was said at a media briefing held yesterday (7) in Colombo held at 'Kanthawa and Saamuhikaya' centre at Borella, Sarasavi Lane.

What they said was that 'samarisi' behaviour was not a crime but a right; that the President has hurt
the feelings of the 'samarisi' community and that because of the statement made by the President in delving into  private sex lives the 'samarisi' community has been terribly frightened.

Mr. Visakesa Chandrasekeran, creator of the film 'Sayapethi kusuma' said that 'samarisi' community of Sri Lanka has been subjected to pressure  just as much as other countries in the world and that Yahapalana government or any government in the past in Sri Lanka has not stood on their behalf. He further said that 'Samarisi' community should stand on behalf of rights to practise Politics and that they would request the President to respect that community.
