Big battle -- President decides to convene parliament on 14th

President Mr. Maithripala Siriena has decided to call parliament to convene on 14th Wednesday. A gazette notification was released in that respect today. It is mentioned in the gazette that the President has arrived at this decision according to powers invested in him by constitution 3 - 1 of the 70th constitution. As such, the parliament is to convene at 10 in the morning on 14th this month.

Criticisms emerged that parliament was postponed till 16th by Maithripala Sirisena after appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa and that it was not a favourable political decision. Subsequently, while various dates such as 5th, 7th circulated around, it has been decided that parliament be summoned in this manner two days before the decided date, on the 14th. A talk goes round that a vote would be taken in this context to ascertain powers of the government.
