Truth about professor Raj Somadeva's mining licence being negated, circulating across facebook

An extensive dialogue has taken place to the effect that the mining licence of professor Raj Somadeva who has been exposing history across local archaeological evidence to the media in a simple manner, being an eminent person related to the field of Sri Lanka archaeological mining has not been extended.

Though this is an institutional issue, what some pages of social media has reported is that this is a case of racial revenge. What is interpreted in those pages is that this is a conspiracy of a nonnative group opposing the history of the Sinhala race. A letter published in the newspaper sometime back by
Raj Somadevan against Chief Governor of North, Vigneshwaran too has been cited as testimony in this instance.

Already a petition is circulating round the internet asking that the invalidated licence of the professor be restored. In the meantime, the professor has made comments by addressing a web radio though it is true that Archaeological Department has not renewed his licence; but that when inquiring reasons about it he was told that reports of previous mining activities were not fully reported, this action has been taken. As such, though he had taken steps to provide the relevant reports, the department has refrained from renewing the licence on purpose.

Whatever it is, director general of Archaeology P.B. Mandawela has clarified matters. He on the other hand says that professor Somadeva who has so far not submitted mining reports relevant to licences provided by Archaeology Department and analysis reports in relation to artifacts discovered have still not been handed over to Archaeological Department. He further mentioned that 143 licences have been issued to 23 professionals from the year 2006 upto 2018 and that professor Somadeva has acquired 19 of those and that the other 22 professionals have been notified by letter about it by him. Director General of Archaeology has stated that so far 7 months have elapsed in professor Mr. Raj Somadeva not handing over to Archaeology Department the relevant reports or artifacts related to mining licences secured by him and instead is making various announcements in public places by using the facebook, without handing over the above.

The director general says that interpreting in an incorrect way that Archaeological Department has cancelled the said licence is something that does not fall in line with his professional dignity and respect. The director general further mentions that goverment audit has already commenced inquiry about this fault of not handing over research reports and artifacts to Archaeological Department and that this act is a case of serious violation of the Archaeology Act and the director general says that what Mr. Somadeva should have done was to forward an appeal to the minister and not mislead the public by saying that this a racial decision across the media or facebook.

The director general finally informed that the department has expressed surprise by publishing opinions by using a group of young people while not handing over professor's reports or artifacts discovered by him even after 7 months have elapsed.
