Wessels car driven by drunk lady doctor collides against vehicle driven by police-father who dies in accident -- wife, 2 sons seriously injured!

One person dies while three were seriously injured in a road accident which happened down Wickramaratna Mawatha, Boralesgomuwa around 12.45 this morning. The said accident has happened when a jeep driven from the opposite direction had collided with a Wessells vehicle driven by a lady doctor moving towards Boralesgomuwa.

In this instance the father, mother and two sons (aged 21 and 5) has sustained serious injuries when those around the vicinity had got round together and admitted them to Kalubowila Hospital. However, the police officer who drove his vehicle has passed away at about 2.20 and in the meantime
his wife who was seriously injured and 21 year old son are under treatment at Kalubowila Hospital while the 5 year old child has been admitted to Colombo National Hospital.

Deceased, the 51 year old father named Ajantha Gamini Gamage, a resident of No. 68/11, Wewa Road, Boralesgomuwa was employed being attached to Police Field Forces Headquarters. The dead body is presently lying at Kalubowila mortuary and the postmortem is to be conducted today the 30th September.

The lady responsible for the accident happens to be a lady doctor named Dilani Kavinga at Ratnapura Hospital attached to the Diabetes Unit, it is reported. She in fact was found to be under liquor at the moment of this accident, it was revealed at police inquiry. Mrs. Suneetha Nanayakkara, additional magistrate at Gangodawila has today (30) issued orders that the lady doctor be kept under remand custody till 9th next month. She too has sustained injuries because of the accident and having been under police custody is now undergoing treatment at Kalubowila Hospital. Boralesgomuwa police are conducting further inquiries in this connection.
