30 years since marriage -- does not know husband's name -- does not know children's names!

Even after about thirty years have passed and having bestowed three children, a strange case is reported of a wife from Panduwasnuwara who does not know the name of her husband and his surname.

A police mobile service conducted by Hettipola police covered several locations at Hettipola recently. As Dengue control programme too was a part of this mobile service, inspection of houses and educating householders in this respect was conducted under this mobile service. Under this programme a team of police officers of Hettipola police joined hands with some officers of
Panduwasnuwara provincial medical health officers who travelled from house to house inspecting houses and educating them. Subsequently the officers concerned had inspected the houses and noted down the name and address of the house inspected.

After inspecting a certain house the officers asked for the house owner's name from the woman present to which she had replied saying, "mahatthayo ... this house and property is in son's name ... he has gone to work". "Doesn't matter that son is not here; tell us his full name and address for us to take down", the officers had told the woman. The woman had then stated a short name used on him at home to the officers. The officers then had told the woman "that won't do ... tell the full name with the surname correctly". "I don't know the full name of the child mahatthayo. Wait a moment ... I'll bring the birth certificate and give you", the woman had said. As time was passing, the officers had said "then tell us your husband's full name'. She had then told a short name used on the husband too. The officers had then told this woman "not like that ... tell us husband's name with the surname". "I don't know of a name with the surname as such mahatthayo", she had replied. The officers subsequently questioned the woman as to how long before she had been married, not because it was necessary but she seemed someone who has passed her middle age. "It's a long time since I have come with my man mahatthayo. The other two children are doing a job", she had responded. "Wait a moment mahatthayo ... I'll bring and give son's birth certificate. There you will be able to find the name". So saying the woman had gone inside the house and brought a copy of son's birth certificate and had shown it to the officers.

As recorded in the birth certificate the second son too has passed the twenty fifth year. The officers have been thoroughly surprised at this woman who even after about thirty years of marriage and after getting three children is unaware of her husband's name with whom she had been living together under one roof and children's names too for that matter.
