Two monks at Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya had been brutally stabbed and killed
Last night it was reported that two monks were killed at Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya. It is reported that a group of people have entered the Rajamaha Vihara and has killed two monks and that they have escaped.
This incident has been reported around 9.45 in the night. It is reported that they have come in a white CAR bearing the number AN-6376 and that the two monks have been killed using sharp edged weapons. The senior monk had succumbed to his injuries in the temple bathroom itself and the younger monk had passed away before admission to the Kalubowila hospital. The senior of the two was Ven. Pitigala Jinasiri Thera (82 years old) while the other was Ven Borelessgamuwe Gunarathana Thera (61)
The police investigations carried out so far have found out that the gang of murderers had come with the aim to kill Ven. Pitigala Jinasiri Thera.
It is reported that at the time of the murder Pitigala Jinasiri has been in the bathroom having a shower after having a discussion with some laymen who had come to the temple. The gang of murderers has come to his bathroom. It is also revealed that they have stabbed the reverend’s neck. At this time the Ven. Pitigala Jinasiri has called for help and Ven. Borelesgamuwe Gunarathana had come for help. The murderers had stabbed both the reverends and they had escaped.
Ven. Pitigala Jinarathana had been pronounced death at the bath room itself and Ven. Gunarathana had passed away on his way to the Kalubowila hospital.
The cause for death had been identified as stabbing. It is revealed that it had been a gang of 3 or 4 people that have come in a white car. It is reported that all of them haven’t gone back in the car and that there are witnesses who had seen some escaping over the fence.
The evidence shows that the gang of murderers had looked for the newly appointed the Chief Incumbent Ven. Aluthgama Anuruddha.Thera
It is not yet found as to who were those who were responsible for the murder and the police is carrying out further investigations on the case.
